Primary/Junior Teacher

About us. We’re growing! We are a young classical Christian school preparing for our fourth year. We started with 18 students in JK-2, and we’re anticipating 80+ students in JK-7 next year. Our community is intimate, we have our own curriculum (not Ontario’s), we’re low on tech (and high on books, art, and nature), and we love the gospel of grace that makes us right with God and one another.

The position. Oak Hill Academy is accepting applications for a Primary/Junior teaching position for the 2021-2022 school year. The anticipated class will be either Grade 3, 4, or 5, and possibly a split between two grades. For some aspects of the day, you may work alongside the teacher or students of the other of these classes.

Using our curriculum, the teacher will plan and teach some or all lessons in English language (literature, poetry, cursive, spelling, grammar, reasoning/logic, and composition), Latin, mathematics, Bible, history, science, and gym. The ideal candidate will have a strong background in the language arts and elementary mathematics. They will love excellent literature and select books and poems that instruct, move, and delight. This person will have a deep appreciation of nature and the arts – an enthusiasm for studying the created world and our cultural heritage of books, art, and music. This teacher will create a calm, orderly, and kind classroom and be diligent in encouraging students to grow in wisdom through regular prayer and Bible reading, habit-training, loving correction, and maintaining high expectations for respect, behaviour, and academic work.

All interested applicants are encouraged to apply. This is a full-time position. We are open to considering half-time positions for exceptional candidates (either mornings or afternoons, Monday through Friday, or 2-3 full days/week). Please read through the application requirements on our website, which also includes information on our candidate process. The Lord bless you!
